- Just finished reading this to my six-year-old and almost-four-year-old boys. The 6yo spontaneously clapped when we got to the end. We all loved it.
Like the first in the series, it kind of seems like nothing is happening, but the art and the flow of the conversation hook you in and, before you realize it, you're immersed in a really well-plotted story based on really sensitive observations of kids (and grown ups). This second book really drew both kids in with the mysteries and their resolution.
The background story of the rats in the series also just really tickles my kids. Our copy of the first book in the series is dog-eared because they have pored over all the pages looking for the details that crack them up (rat skeletons, mostly)...
Seems cheesy to say that this series is a delight but it really is. I feel like elementary-school kids don't often get stuff that doesn't talk down to them, resort to really basic toilet humor all the time, or rely on just beautiful pictures. It's a tough age to write for, maybe. But this series so far is a real treat. It's the kind of book you'll be giving your friends' kids and nieces and nephews for the next decade or so. - My daughter loves this book. Cute illustrations and funny jokes.
- Wonderful book. I bought it for my kids, who loved it. I enjoyed it, too. Beautiful art, great writing.
- Wonderful book. We can’t wait for the next issue
- great follow up. would buy 10 copies for my 3 year old. he loves it!
- I would like if the book was longer but otherwise it’s a good book and everyone should read it again and again
- This elementary graphic novel is cute- I love that the characters are diverse (a duck in hijab, a cat with two mommies) but I wish that they were human. There are so many children’s books where the characters are “diverseâ€, but they’re animals. Kids deserve to see themselves as the characters instead of as animals who share some of their traits? That said, those traits and families were included, which is a great step. The storyline was a little meandering; it’s very vignette-y but overall ties together. The illustrations are super cute and it’s easy to follow.
