Pasta Pane Vino Deep Travels Through Italy Food Culture Audible Audio Edition Matt Goulding Will Damron Tantor Audio Books Reviews

  • WOW! What a great book! Matt Goulding’s 3rd book PASTA, PANE, VINO from Roads & Kingdoms takes you on a culinary adventure across all the regions of Italy. From the globetrotting buffalo mozzarella makers of Puglia to Ragu Nonna’s of Savigno, this book covers it all. The challenge? Just as Goulding & Anthony Bourdain share in the foreword, how do you get a book on Italian food & cooking right?
All I can say it this book got it right and has me purchasing tasty charcuterie, Salumi, pasta and in search of the best Ragu the SF Bay area has to offer. I’m hungry for more with each chapter. Goulding has the ability to capture the moment, smells and tastes so well that I find myself salivating while reading! And the vividly colorful photos bring you that much closer to the food and interesting people he meets along the way.
I really enjoyed his 7 day hike/walk through the Piedmont region. Who needs a car when you can walk through an area filled with culinary treasures.
Pick this book up today, you will be headed to Italy before you know it! Either on a plane or in your imagination. It is a great read by a wonderful author considerate to the history and culture of all regions.
  • I loved this book, and I was sad when it was finished. I though Matt’s writing was personal and engaging. For a point of reference, I have been coming to Italy for more than 50 years and I now live here permanently. I speak good Italian and I love food. I am not a cook, but I love to eat and I really appreciate the diversity of Italian cooking. I think Matt got it right as far as the regional and personal aspects of this wonderful country. If you are interested in traveling to Italy, do yourself a favor and buy this enjoyable, informative read. I highly recommend it.
  • I have recommended this book to everyone I know.
    An excellent read!!!
  • Thoughtful and in-depth editorial look at the food and people in regions throughout Italy. Very informative and inspiring for my trip to Italy next year.
  • This book is small and easy to read, all about the different regions and foods of Italy. It's pictures bring the book alive!
Anthony Bourdain helped the author and fellow writers of this book and unfortunately Anthony passed away just about the time the book came out! I know everyone will miss his whit, charm and love of food!
  • This is NOT a cookbook, but a beautifully written love letter to food in general and Italian food in particular. If you want to really understand Italian food and food culture (not the Americanised and romanticised version of it!), you need to read this.
  • Some of the subjects were too long, too deep, for example Cacio e Pepe and the Neopolitan Pizza chapter. I wanted deep and I got it, but it was so long and repetitive that it weakened the message.
Generally, it did give a deep treatment of the food culture, which is remarkable and you felt like you were there sometimes.
Treatment of wine (1/3 of the title) was very weak.
  • Absolutely loved the stories of the people, the food and the travel to discover “the real deal” of Italy. Would have appreciated this book have a few key recipes as described by the “nonnas” as well as those who make the key ingredients.
