New York Times bestseller Allison Brennan's latest novel featuring FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid finds her on the trail of a serial killer.

“BRENNAN [IS] A MASTER.”
Associated Press

With a background in psychology, FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid is good at getting into the heads of killers and victims both. Still, her latest case is leaving her stumped. A third body has turned up in San Antonio—and it bears the same unique and troubling M.O. as the first two. The killer is clearly trying to send a message. But what is it—and to whom? All roads keep leading Lucy down a dead end. . .

“CAN’T-PUT-IT-DOWN SUSPENSE.”—Fresh Fiction

The victims are all married men who led honest lives alongside their adoring wives, but have nothing else in common. When Lucy catches each widow in a lie, she realizes that things are not at all as they seem. What begins as a seemingly straightforward investigation turns into something far darker and more sinister than Lucy could have ever imagined. Can she solve this case before more lives are lost. . . including her own husband?

"Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. I love it when the mystery is so twisted that I can't figure it out. Lucy is a strong female lead and I enjoy every book about her. I did miss her and Seans relationship, I hope he and Kane show up in the next book and that Sean participates in Lucys life a little more."

  • I liked the balance in this book between the case and other events with Sean and Kane, I really liked seeing more with Michael and the relationships there. The plotting and pace consistent and fast as always and a great read. I liked the partnership with Jerry that he didn't become and instant Lucy fan. If I was being picky I'd say the murderer a little obvious, not emotionally very satisfying and the injection of Dillon and Hans a bit routine.

I'd like more Dillon and Hans but with a more substantial story. I also think if the series continues (and I hope it does) that they start to explore whether Lucy becomes a 'profiler'.

A bit of a spoiler here but I liked that it didn't end with a 'Colombo' style exposition of the why's.

As always can't wait to read the next one
  • I love Ms. Brennan’s Lucy Kincaid novels. Lucy works with a police detective to solve the cold, premeditated murders of four men. The murderer was a surprise to me but made perfect sense...in a cold, emotionless way. Her husband, Sean, is trying to be a good father to his son and keep the members of a local gang from harming the boys in a group home...a place Sean financed to keep several rescued boys safe. I am glad I read this book and am looking forward to the next one.
  • Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. I love it when the mystery is so twisted that I can't figure it out. Lucy is a strong female lead and I enjoy every book about her. I did miss her and Seans relationship, I hope he and Kane show up in the next book and that Sean participates in Lucys life a little more.
  • No reason was given as to why the villainous person did the other 3 murders. Again there are 2 plots that do not even connect. Also I am tired of Lucy stories. Please write about the others in her family.
  • Another excellent addition to the series. I thoroughly enjoy this series and Lucy and Sean and all the other “regulars”. As always, Allison Brennan does not disappoint!
  • Great book, exciting all the way through to the end.
  • This is my first Lucy Kincaid book. I don't recommend it as a starting point for other beginners. Lucy has a long, complicated history alluded to frequently rape, capture, houses blowing up, a stepson with a drug lord stepfather and more. All that activity from other books makes a novice stumble.

There is a lot going on in this book. FBI agent Lucy is paired with a hostile member of the San Antonio Police Department and must try to cope with his hatred for the FBI. There is a brutal serial killer striking at middle-aged married men which leads to the introduction of their families, neighbors, employers and friends. Then there is Lucy's stepson Jesse, who has made friends with the boys who were slave mules for a drug cartel in a previous book and one of them is in danger. Lucy's husband, computer whiz Sean Rogen, meanders through the story, along with his very interesting brothers and their girlfriends.

There is quite a bit for a reader to juggle. I enjoyed most of the strands and the careful plotting, but had difficulty toward the end of the book with the actions, past and present, of the culprit. Much of it did not seem real to me.

Readers of the whole series will probably love this book. First timers won't get as much out of it.
  • " Nothing To Hide" by Allison Brennan was a somewhat confusing book. While the characters that lived in one story are engaging and the basic story interesting and causing one to wonder " who is the killer" almost to the end of the book, there is a second story that the reader will wonder how does this story - about young boys, friendship, trust, gangs, etc -fit in with the first story about a serial killer. Chapter after chapter I waited to learn how the two stories would mesh into each other. Yes, some of the characters that were in story one are also in story two, but the main theme in each of the stories are entirely different. And, they never really mesh. As I read this book I was focusing on story one and would be totally engaged in what was going on. Then story two would pop up and sometimes I forgot that story two existed and had to stop the reading flow and try to remember what had happened the last time story two popped up. It always seemed disjointed and as I have already said continued to make me wonder when both stories would become one. I would have been perfectly satisfied with just having story one all by itself.
