Tristanna has served for years as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Philippa and has waited for the return of her betrothed, Jarrett Marsden, from the war in France. Tristanna dislikes Jarrett, who chases anything in a skirt, and longs to wed Sir Quill Cardon, an honorable knight who has captured her heart.

"There is so much to enjoy about THE BASTARD. From how celebrations were held in medieval times to battles fought for their king to countless emotional moments, I was enthralled with every aspect portrayed in this engrossing story. Alexa Aston once again lets her imagination create situations that are truly realistic during each scene, where individuals come across as so genuine while also displaying such vividly conveyed feelings. I always feel as though I am right beside any character in the story, experiencing the many fascinating events right along with them.

Although Quill Cardon was the firstborn son of an earl, he would never inherit the title because of the circumstances of his birth. Right before his father is arrested for treason, the young boy is secretly sent away for his protection and grows up to eventually fight for England. After the English are victorious over France in a decisive battle, Quill becomes the champion in a tournament that is celebrating the victory. Though his heroic actions afterward lead to him receiving a title and land, what he really wants is to be acknowledged for his true background and to wed Lady Tristanna Willoughby, a woman recently met and promised to another man.

Not all of the developments in THE BASTARD are expected, thus leaving me stunned when any unforeseen turns are revealed. Though I did know several of the secrets that most of the characters had not learned, I had no clue about other surprising truths as the author kept them well hidden. The relationship of Quill and Tristanna is almost magical at times, as the couple feel they have no future, yet avoiding the pull between them is impossible. I really felt for them, as their situation definitely seems hopeless, and the journey they had to take while seeking happiness is cleverly carried out with lots of emotional challenges. The events during the tournament were especially entertaining, and I could easily picture the two riders charging toward each other during the joust. Another remarkable book in the King's Cousins series plus a gratifying conclusion."

The Bastard The King Cousins Book 3 edition by Alexa Aston Dragonblade Publishing Romance eBooks Reviews

  • I've read the whole series and loved it. I know it's been stated this series can be read in any order I agree Books 1 and 2 could, but think too much is divulge in this one should be last. It would anticlimactic if you read this first, just saying.

This was a full 5 star read, until the last part. Just so much that seemed unbelievable in how it all unfolded, but still a wonderful read. This is full of passion, romance, tension, suspense, nasty villains and lovemaking - home run!!

There is foreplay outside of marriage and only once and mildly described. Then there is lovemaking described once or twice within marriage and heat level maybe 3.5 out of 5 if that. When she first views our H in all his glory, why doesn't she notice the scar that is somewhat fresh. When he explains to her much later how he got it, she is surprised. Hummmm, thought she was looking him over - lol!!

The description of the tournament seemed so real that I felt I was in the stands watching it. This author has a way of pulling you into her stories.

This was a very satisfying end to this trilogy and I enjoyed every experience the author took me on. We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, nice epilogue and believable character's too.

I can't improve on the blurb, so not attempting, just stating what you may discover reading this series. (ljb)
  • I have a confession to make. While I should have left a review for each book in this amazing trilogy of the King's cousins, I wanted to wait until after I had read all of them first. I apologize to the author for not leaving positive 5 star reviews for each one of them; because they most assuredly deserved it. This author has a way of drawing you into in the time period of King Edward II, and a young Edward III, later known as The Black Prince. This author was able to so skillfully weave a tapestry of words to describe what life was like for people during that time, that you can easily imagine yourself smelling the smells, (good and bad); see the sights, know what the food tasted like, imagine yourself wearing the beautiful gowns of the nobility, and most exciting of all, experience firsthand the pageantry and excitement of a medieval tournament and joust. The bond between the three siblings is touching and remarkable in their devotion to each other. You root for each one to overcome their many obstacles and challenges in order to find their one, true, love. The love scenes sizzle, and in the end, true love finally does conquer all. I will give this review with a caveat, however, the medieval times were filled with a great deal of violence both on the battlefield and at times against women; if such rather graphic realistic depictions easily offend you; or if you are offended by rather explicit love scenes; then do NOT buy this book. This book is for mature readers 18+ only . I highly recommend all the books in this series, and would also suggest that you read the book God of the Seas, which is the prequel story about the three siblings great grandparents,; Godwin and Melisent Deblays ; (who happened to be a pirate king!) Happy reading everyone!
